What is Article Moderation?

One of the core functions of Source is to automate information collection by creating recurring searches. To moderate an article means to review and update articles to ensure content and details are correct.  It also means to monitor that searches you created are bringing in relevant results.

Source has the following Article Editing Tools available to facilitate article moderation:

  • update article status
  • View article in the original (non-EN) language (for searches and articles in foreign language)
  • View article in English translation
  • update article title and/or content accordingly
  • highlight important texts
  • verify and update publish date
  • add an article to an issue
  • delete or add locations
  • add articles to digest

Why must users actively moderate articles?

1. Maintain an organized user data set. Categorizing articles according to status and issue association helps users find their topics of interest on one page.

2. Catch critical news. Moderating an article is mainly about changing article status according to its relevance and importance. Secondary to this is editing an article for accuracy of Title, Description, Publish Date, Location, and highlighting of important texts. Adding articles to an Issue helps organize data

3. Help the system AI.  Moderating articles efficiently is critical to help in developing the system AI. Marking relevant articles with the corresponding status expands the AI's understanding of which articles to possibly tag as irrelevant.
